Best Knee Braces For Hiking

HOW CAN I PREVENT OR AVOID A KNEE INJURY WHILE HIKING?

Hiking through rough terrains for long hours while carrying a heavy rucksack can put strain on your knees which can increase your risk of a knee injury.

Often knee injuries can be minimised by reducing your pack weight (if you are carrying a hiking pack) and by improving your walking form.

Unnecessary weight will put added stress on your knees while hiking, especially when traversing downhill.

Bauerfeind knee braces help to promote blood flow with the use of medical grade compression, something not found when using low-cost neoprene sleeves and braces.

WHY DO MY KNEES HURT WHEN I GO HIKING?

Hiking involves lots of walking uphill, downhill, jumping and running activities that are hard on your knees. These can cause knee pain, especially with repeated strain (like when you hike a lot).

HOW TO TREAT A HIKING INJURY?

We recommend seeking treatment from a physiotherapist for treating a hiking injury. They may recommend one the following treatments.

      • Strains or Sprains. Many sprains and strains can be treated with the RICE method: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. A good physiotherapist can assist with the recovery however prevention is always better than cure.
      • Arthritis of the Knee. Non-surgical treatment options for severe knee arthritis include physiotherapy exercises, applications of ice or heat and using supportive devices.
      • Meniscal Tearing. Minor meniscal tears may be treated with the RICE method and anti-inflammatory medications. More severe tears may require surgery. Surgery for meniscal tears are minimally invasive, allowing for faster recovery.

Play it safe: Consult a doctor if you experience unusually intense and persistent knee pain.
