Compression Stockings For DVT

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) happens when a blood clot forms deep in the vein of the leg, and if untreated can lead to serious or even lethal damage. Among the ways doctors treat, manage and prevent DVT, compression stockings are a must-have.

Whether you're late into your pregnancy term, just recently given birth or you're on a particularly long flight, wearing pressure stockings for DVT or compression stockings for blood clots can make all the difference.

What is DVT?

DVT is short for deep vein thrombosis, a medical condition that occurs when a clot forms in the deeper veins of the lower leg. This is particularly dangerous as if the clot becomes dislodged, it can travel up into the lungs causing massive and potentially fatal damage. This is more common in pregnant women, those seated still for extended periods of time such as air travel, as well as people with pre-existing vein issues.

How do compression stockings help it?

Compression stockings help to regulate and improve the blood flow. This maintains regular pressure to ensure the chance of further clotting is minimised, while working alongside special medication that a doctor will prescribe to help the clot dissipate back into the body.
