Ankle Strap

Strapping or taping your ankle for sports is great for stability on the field. But having to reapply every time, sometimes twice a match can leave you tired and over it. Ankle stability is crucial for injury prevention and recovery, so finding a more sustainable alternative that you can "set and forget" is often the best solution.

Using braces or sleeves with an ankle strap built in gives you the stability of an ankle strap with the compression and recovery of a sleeve for the best combination to keep active.

How does strapping help the ankle?

Strapping acts as a stabiliser and regulator. When you're injured, pain and weakness change the way you walk, causing the ankle to roll, slip or slide. An ankle strap works to regulate that movement, restoring it to normal function so you don't have to focus on each step all the time.

Why can't I just use tape?

While taping your ankle properly with the right tape is the best way of stabilising the joint, it doesn't last long, sometimes only 20 minutes if you're on the rugby field. It can also hurt and leave residue after every application, turning into a regular waxing session. Ankle straps work to emulate taping over the day, taking the hassle out of it.

For chronic cases, you can use the strap over tape for maximum stability.

Will these stop me moving properly?

Bauerfeind's ankle straps are designed to regulate the active movement of your ankles, rather than reduce or immobilise them. This means that you still have full movement of the joint as you need, being able to play sports without restriction. It's the perfect compromise between support and freedom, great for those who want some protection and extra stability without forsaking movement.
