Best Shoulder Braces For Volleyball

HOW CAN I PREVENT OR AVOID A SHOULDER INJURY WHILE PLAYING VOLLEYBALL?

Volleyball movements such as serving or spiking can create stress in the shoulder muscles which can cause shoulder pain.

This can also increase the risk of shoulder injuries such as rotator cuff tendonitis, bursitis, SLAP tears or shoulder impingement syndrome.

To prevent shoulder injuries we recommend shoulder strengthening exercises and stretching before playing.

Using the OmoTrain shoulder brace can support and stabilise the rotator cuff muscles. It allows natural mobility of the shoulder joint, thus doesn’t interfere with the game.

Bauerfeind’s medical-grade compression accelerates muscle regeneration and provides pain relief by allowing more oxygen and nutrients to reach the shoulder area.

The unique design guides and centres the arm in the socket to ensure a stable shoulder without causing any restrictions to movement.

This added support will help stabilise your joint without limiting your ability to jump serve, block, spike a ball or off-speed hit.

WHY DOES MY SHOULDER HURT FROM VOLLEYBALL?

In volleyball, your shoulders are engaged when serving, spiking and blocking, which can lead to shoulder pain. Overuse or straining can lead to rotator cuff tendinitis or bursitis, which requires medical attention.

HOW TO TREAT A VOLLEYBALL SHOULDER INJURY?

  • Strains or Sprains. Many sprains and strains can be treated with the RICE method: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. A physiotherapist can assist with the recovery as well. If the sprain is more severe you may require surgery.
  • Rotator Cuff Tear. Strengthening exercises from your physiotherapist can be a form of conservative treatment for rotator cuff tears. If your injury is severe with a full or partial tear of the muscle or tendons, surgery may be the most appropriate.
  • Rotator Cuff Tendinitis. Tendinitis occurs over time due to repetitive and prolonged shoulder movements, which results in inflamed or irritated tendons. It can be treated through adequate rest and avoidance of activities that cause pain, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy and steroid injections. For more severe symptoms, surgery would be an appropriate treatment option.

Play it safe: Consult a doctor if you experience unusually intense and persistent shoulder pain.
