Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Malleotrain Ankle Support and Malleotrain S Ankle Support?

The main difference between Malleotrain Ankle Support and Malleotrain S Ankle Support is the presence of the semi-elastic strap system present in Malleotrain S which functions as taping for the ankle. This aids in providing pain relief for Grade 1 and Grade 2 ankle sprains. Malleotrain, on the other hand, provides active support to the ankle tendons through the two viscoelastic pads. Malleotrain is best for preventing sprains and relapses. It is advisable for osteoarthritis patients as it improves proprioception and prevents injuries.

What is the difference between Malleotrain S Open Support and Malleotrain S Ankle Support?

The main difference between the two supports is the open heel area present in Malleotrain S Open Support. This increases the floor contact, improving the feeling of contact with the ground. Thus, it's beneficial for enjoying activities such as gymnastics,  dancing, yoga and martial arts.

How can I treat pain in the heel which is extending to the ankle joint?

Pain in the heel is caused due to inflammation of the plantar fascia tissue in the foot which can radiate further to the ankle joint, causing ankle pain. It's important to treat the heel pain, commonly known as plantar fasciitis, first. We recommend wearing foot insoles to treat plantar fasciitis condition. To support the ankle and provide pain relief, we recommend wearing Malleotrain S. It provides support to the ankle joint similar to taping.

How can I prevent relapse of an ankle injury?

Whilst nature has built sturdiness into the ankle, supination or overpronation (bending of the foot in the wrong direction) by just a few millimetres can cause a sprain. The chances of relapse of an injury increase if your level of activity is high and if you’ve experienced a sprain before. To prevent ankle sprain injury, we recommend wearing Malleotrain or Malleotrain S for active support and stabilisation of the ankle joint. The graded compression provided in Malleotrain S aids in lactic acid elimination which is one of the causes of spraining.

Incredible support

The model I wanted was out of stock so I purchased this design instead. So pleased I opted for this design as the wrap around velcro strap adds and extra layer of support I didn't think I needed; it feels so comfortable. No tightness at the toes or calf, just super comfortable that I can wear all day.

Good but...

During a socially volleyball session, I landed on an opponents foot when they crossed their side of the court resulting in me rolling my left ankle.

I really like this ankle support for wearing at home as the ankle pain is still present.

However wearing this with my shoes during volleyball training and in a game is not so good. The bulkiness is a little uncomfortable and the strap doesn't give the lateral support I prefer.

Recently going back to rigid tapping my ankle I must admit that my ankle feels more supported when tapped correctly compared to the ankle support.

Note the Velcro that the strap uses to hold itself will cause some minor wear on the ankle support sock. You can see the fraying of the fabric in the photo.

Bauerfeind New Zealand

Hi Billy,
We are pleased that you have found comfort with the MalleoTrain S Ankle Support in your recovery off of the Volleyball court. It is therefore a shame you have not felt the same comfort whilst playing! The 'bulkiness' you're experiencing is not commonly felt with this product so we want to help you out here. To ease this, we would recommend the MalleoTrain Ankle Support. This product does not have strapping (something we feel may be attributing to your discomfort), and would provide a similar level of support.

We want to make sure that you can feel more freedom whilst enjoying fitness, if you have any questions or need further support please do not hesitate to call us on 1300 668 466 or leave us a message on our live chat.
