I had previously bought a GenuTrain brace as I started recovering from an injury I picked up when hiking. I found that to be an excellent product. I bought the Outdoor Knee Support brace to wear as I resumed hiking, since it was specifically designed for this, and also to pack into my rucksack for "insurance" on future hiking/trekking trips. The sizing chart for this product is quite different from the GenuTrain. My measurements are 45-35 which put me in size 3 range for the GenuTrain and size "M" for the Outdoor Knee Support, which I bought. We did a hike yesterday and I found the Outdoor Knee Support too tight, especially below the knee, and so had to take it off mid-hike. It was especially constraining when I needed to do step-ups of half a meter or so. However, the good news is that my wife, who uses a knee brace on longer hikes, tried it on and found it much better than the brace she would normally use. So, the brace is hers now. On coming home, we checked the sizing and found that my wife measured up for a size "S" on the Outdoor Knee Support sizing chart, not size "M". So, my advice would be if you measure up close to the larger end of a size range, especially for the calf, go for the next size up. I'm it two minds as to whether I will buy a bigger size brace for myself.

You can definitely continue wearing your GenuTrain on hikes, but if you do get pains specifically on descents, the Outdoor Knee may be more suitable.
