Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between LumboTrain back brace and SacroLoc back brace?

The LumboTrain back brace supports the lumbar spine area to treat lower back pain whereas the SacroLoc back brace stabilises the pelvis area and relieves the sacroiliac joints.

The mode of action of the LumboTrain is through the viscoelastic gel back pad which relieves lumbar tension. The SacroLoc has two massage pads which cut out at the iliac spine (SIPS) for better comfort. The pads gently massage the affected muscles during movement and the compression relieves tension which helps to reduce pain.

The two back braces also differ in strapping system. The SacroLoc stabilises the pelvis through a patented strap system made with an elastic mesh material that provides a higher level of sturdiness and stability during every day movement. The LumboTrain uses a hand strap system which makes it easier to fit and wear the back brace on a daily basis.

What is the difference between LordoLoc back brace and SacroLoc back brace?

The LordoLoc back brace aids in supporting the lumbar spinal region whereas the SacroLoc targets the sacroiliac joints which focuses on supporting the pelvic region.

The LordoLoc should be used to treat acute or chronic lower back pain whereas the SacroLoc suits conditions such as SI joint syndrome, SI joint blockage and pelvic girdle instability.

The mode of action of the LordoLoc is via aluminium strips located at the back of the brace which act to provide rigidity and support, whereas the SacroLoc has two massaging pads which provide circular massaging movement to the back muscles during movement.

What is the difference between the SacroLoc back brace and the LumboLoc back brace?

The SacroLoc back brace provides support to the pelvic region and sacroiliac joint, whereas the LumboLoc provides stabilisation to the lumbar spine.

The SacroLoc provides active relief through the massaging pads whereas the LumboLoc provides stabilisation and rigidity with 4 aluminium strips to improve posture and provide pain relief.

The SacroLoc is used for assisting conditions such as pelvic fractures and instability, SI joint syndrome/arthritis whereas the LumboLoc is used for treating lower back pain and facet syndrome.

Can I wear the SacroLoc back brace above my clothes?

The SacroLoc back brace is best worn under clothing. The two massage pads are most effective when in contact with the skin to massage the muscles and relieve the pressure.

Are back braces covered by medicare or private health insurance?

Medically necessary back braces are covered under the durable medical equipment (DME) prefabricated orthotics benefit, however your medicare-approved physician must prescribe the back brace to receive the rebate.

Bauerfeind Australia is currently not an official supplier of Medicare, so you will not be able to receive the 80% rebate from Medicare. Certain private health insurance providers cover Bauerfeind back braces which are prescribed by a physician, please contact your health insurance provider to find out.

Can you sleep with a back brace on?

Our back braces can be worn while sleeping if you require stabilisation of the spine during your sleep. However, back braces are recommended to be worn during daily activity or during sporting activity to provide support during movement.
