A Study: The Effect of a Knee Brace on Osteoarthritis
Bauerfeind’s infamous GenuTrain® knee brace has undergone continuous improvement since it hit the market in 1981.
The 14 time winner of the International iF DESIGN AWARD, GenuTrain® active supports strengthen and activate the muscles as well as protect and provide relief to joints.
The GenuTrain® A3 is designed to relieve complex, chronic knee pain, including pain caused by arthritis.
Knee brace case study
A recent study conducted by the Movement Medical Research, Department of Sports Medicine, University of Hamburg tested the GenuTrain® A3 knee brace on patients with grade 1-3 osteoarthritis of the knee.
The aim of the randomised and controlled study was to demonstrate the effect of a knee brace in terms of range of motion, pain reduction, and physical mobility.
In the early stages, osteoarthritis is limited to changes in the articular cartilage, followed by an inflammatory response. There are multiple factors that contribute to the development of osteoarthritis, including changes on a mechanical and molecular biological level, as well as traumatic, genetic and hormonal responses.
METHODOLOGY

RESULTS
Following six weeks of treatment with the GenuTrain® A3 knee brace for arthritis, patients wearing the support demonstrated a decrease in pain, and higher values for stability of the knee and physical mobility.
