Thomas Roehler performing burpees while wearing Bauerfeind's Sports Wrist Strap

A burpee is a combination of a push-up and a jump squat. While the exercise is certainly tiring, it is worth adding to your fitness routine. From building strength and endurance to improving your cardio, here are the benefits of the burpee and how to do it right.

The benefits of doing burpees

Burpees are a full-body workout. As you go through the motion, you’ll be activating your quads, hamstrings, glutes, core, back, shoulders, and arms. Doing a set of burpees will build strength in these areas and can also improve your cardio fitness and endurance.

How to do a proper burpee

  1. Start in a squat position with your knees bent, your back neutral, and your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Drop your hands to the floor in front of you so they’re just inside your feet.
  3. Shifting your weight into your hands, kick your feet back so you’re on your hands and toes in a pushup position.
  4. Keeping your body aligned from head to heels, do one pushup. Remember not to let your back sag or to stick your butt in the air.
  5. Do a frog kick by jumping your feet back to the frog squat.
  6. Stand and reach your arms over your head.
  7. Jump quickly into the air so you land back where you started.
  8. As soon as you land with your knees bent, get into a squat position and do another repetition.

Start the exercise slowly to get accustomed to the movements, then work up your speed.

Support your burpees

Bauerfeind’s Sports Wrist Strap provides support and compression for better performance during workouts. It applies gentle pressure to the wrist, supporting the joint and protecting its more delicate muscles from harm as you do the exercise. The Strap’s breathability and adjustability make it comfortable to wear throughout your workout.
