Woman doing kettlebell squats at the park

Our Workout Videos Are Put Together by Specialists to Help You Get Active and Stay Injury-Free.

The squat is one of the best muscle-building exercises you can do. With kettlebell squats, you increase the challenge for your legs and glutes and work upper back muscles. Read on to learn about the benefits of this exercise and how to do it right for maximum benefits and minimum injury risk.

The Benefits of kettlebell squats

Kettlebell squats take the regular squat up a notch. Adding weight makes the glutes, quads, and hamstrings work harder. And by having you hold the kettlebell in front of you, they work the arms and upper back as well, essentially becoming a full-body workout.

How to do kettlebell squats

  1. Stand upright with your feet spread shoulder-width apart.
  2. Place a kettlebell of a weight appropriate to your ability at your feet. Keeping your feet flat on the floor, squat down by bending at the hips and knees.
  3. Grasp the kettlebell handle with both hands.
  4. While keeping your elbows straight, return to the standing position.
  5. Avoid slumping and slouching to protect your back from injury. Keep your knees positioned directly above your feet and your heels planted on the ground.
  6. Repeat the upward and downward movements in a steady, controlled fashion.
  7. Relax and repeat as your ability allows.
