Best Braces For Runner's Knee

HOW CAN I RELIEVE PAIN AND DISCOMFORT CAUSED BY RUNNER’S KNEE?

Due to the continuous impact on each stride, runners have a high risk of developing Runner’s Knee (also called chondromalacia).

Key signs that you’ve developed PFPS include a dull, aching pain at the front of the knee, mild swelling and a grinding sensation across the knee and thigh bone.

A good knee brace for runner’s knee includes the GenuTrain, which provides targeted support for pain relief and stabilisation of the knee.

Bauerfeind’s high-quality supports or braces with medical-grade compression target the symptoms of runner’s knee and provide relief and stability.

If you feel niggles in your knee or have been diagnosed and a knee brace recommended as part of your treatment, choosing the right knee brace is key to a speedier rehabilitation journey and reduction in pain.

Choosing the right knee brace will give you peace of mind while you engage in your favorite sport. Whether that’s running, tennis, golf, walking, netball, basketball or cycling.

WHY NEOPRENE DOESN'T WORK

We do not recommend using a cheap neoprene knee brace or knee sleeves. These sleeves offer little support and do not wick moisture. Combined this decreases the durability of the knee brace.

Using a 3D weave and moisture wicking fabric, Bauerfeind knee braces are ideal for both everyday and sports use. As the old saying goes, you do get what you pay for.

HOW CAN I TREAT RUNNER’S KNEE?

To help relieve pain and swelling, you can rest your legs and use ice packs to reduce inflammation. Take NSAID painkillers like ibuprofen if necessary, and don’t forget to stretch and complete strengthening exercises like squats and glute bridges.

HOW TO TREAT PAIN CAUSED BY RUNNER’S KNEE

We recommend visiting a physiotherapist for treatment and advice on specialised treatment Runner's knee. They may recommend the following treatments.
  • Stop the activity the triggered the pain, and rest the area. Trying to ‘work through’ the pain will only make your symptoms worse and delay healing.
  • Regularly apply ice packs in the first few days to the affected area to help reduce swelling and pain.
  • Severe or persistent pain should be investigated by your doctor.
  • Do stretching and strengthening exercises, especially for your quadricep muscles. Your physiotherapist may recommend you specific exercises to help.

Play it safe: Consult a doctor if you experience unusually intense or persistent knee pain.
